Concept MappingWhen I think of a concept map the first thing that comes to mind is brainstorming. Creating a concept map allows students to think of all of the big ideas that describe one concept. It also helps students to organize their thinking. The good thing about concept maps is that you can make them however you want, thus students can arrange their thoughts in whatever way is understandable to them. Students are allowed to create as many relationships with one concept that they can think of, which is good way for a teacher to see what their students are thinking. I can use concept mapping in my classroom as an introduction to a concept to see what my students’ prior knowledge is. I can also use it as a review at the end of teaching a concept to see what my students have learned.
Digital Stoytelling:
I created a digital storytelling video about parabolas and how they relate to basketball. My video is about a boy named David who wants to play in the NBA, but he feels like he needs to get better at his free throw shots before he could have a chance at being drafted. While practicing his shots he noticed that when he throws the ball to the basketball goal it makes a upside down U shape, this is a shape that he has seen in his mathematics class. So he learns for his math teacher that this shape is the shape of a parabola and he discovers the needed measurements to help him make a free throw shot every time. Below is the link to my video, I hope you enjoy it. |
FreeMindFreeMind is a free mind mapping application that gives you the flexibility to arrange your thoughts on a page as they connect to each other and to your concept

InstaGrokInstaGrok is an interactive seach engine for students. When students search a concept, InstaGrok creates a concept map for them showing how that concept releates to other things as well as other subjects. Students can explore their relationship.
